Anton Dermota was a celebrated Slovenian tenor, best known for his long and distinguished career at the Vienna State Opera. Born in 1910 in what is now Slovenia, he became one of Austria's most beloved operatic tenors in the 20th century. Dermota was particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Mozart roles, including Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Ferrando in Così fan tutte, performing them with elegance, lyrical warmth, and technical finesse.
He joined the Vienna State Opera in the late 1930s and remained a central figure there for decades, performing in over 1,200 performances across a wide range of repertoire.
