Transylvania State Philharmonic Choir

The Transylvania State Philharmonic Choir was founded in 1972 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, under the initiative of composer Sigismund Toduță and the leadership of choir master Dorin Pop, a renowned figure in Romanian choral conducting. The choir quickly rose to prominence, achieving top status among Romanian choirs within just two years. Following Dorin Pop, the choir was led by Florentin Mihăescu and Cornel Groza, who helped the ensemble gain international acclaim with numerous tours and festival appearances, including the Lucerne Festival celebrating George Enescu’s centennial. The choir is known for its refined performances and has featured on soundtracks, such as the film *The Passion of the Christ*.

The choir is part of the larger Transylvania State Philharmonic Institution, which was established in 1955 and includes a well-regarded orchestra alongside the choir. The Philharmonic and Choir have a diverse repertoire covering classical masterpieces and works by Romanian composers. Their recordings and broadcasts have earned critical praise, making the Transylvania State Philharmonic Choir a distinguished artistic ensemble in both Romanian and international music circles.
