Otto Malling

Otto Malling was a Danish composer and organist who lived during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was known for his richly Romantic style and played a key role in Denmark’s musical scene, both as a composer and as a teacher. His works include symphonic pieces, sacred music, and chamber works, but he was especially noted for his contributions to organ music. Malling’s "Frelserens Syv Ord Paa Korset" (The Seven Words of the Redeemer on the Cross) is one of his best-known sacred compositions and reflects his deep musical and spiritual sensibilities.

In addition to his compositional output, Malling served as an influential figure in Danish musical life. He held positions such as the director of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and was active in promoting contemporary music in Denmark. His style was heavily influenced by German Romanticism, particularly composers like Wagner and Liszt, and he helped bridge the gap between the Danish Golden Age composers and the emerging modernist voices of the early 20th century.
