Ekatarina Velika

Ekatarina Velika, commonly abbreviated as EKV, was one of the most revered and influential rock bands to emerge from the former Yugoslavia in the 1980s. Founded in Belgrade in 1982 by singer and songwriter Milan Mladenović, bassist Bojan Pečar, and keyboardist Margita Stefanović, Ekatarina Velika quickly gained recognition for their unique blend of post-punk and new wave, combined with profound lyrics that often delved into existential themes.

Throughout the 1980s and into the early 90s, EKV released a series of critically acclaimed albums, such as "S vetrom uz lice" (1986), "Samo par godina za nas" (1989), and "Dum Dum" (1991), which secured their legacy in the pantheon of rock music within the Balkan region. Mladenović's poetic songwriting and impassioned vocals, along with the band's distinct sound, resonated deeply with a generation of young people living through a period of intense social and political upheaval. The band's lineup changed a few times over the years, but the core of their creative output remained compelling and extraordinarily impactful. Even after their disbandment following Mladenović's untimely death in 1994, EKV's music continues to be celebrated, and their influence on the Balkan music scene remains undisputed. The posthumously released live recordings, such as "EKV Unplugged Skopje 1992," only cemented their standing as a live act capable of captivating audiences with raw emotion and authenticity.
