Mouskouri was born in Chania, Crete, Greece, in 1934. She began singing at a young age and studied at the Athens Conservatory. In 1959, she won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "La dernière valse". This launched her international career, and she soon became one of the most popular singers in the world.
