Runemagick

Runemagick is a Swedish death/doom metal band that’s been conjuring slow, crushing riffs and occult-themed atmospheres since the early ’90s. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Nicklas "Terror" Rudolfsson (formerly of *Grotesque* and *Necrophobic*), the band carved its niche by blending raw, primitive death metal with monolithic doom tempos, often exploring themes of ancient magic, cosmic decay, and eldritch darkness. Based in Gothenburg, the group released cult albums like *The Supreme Force of Eternity* (1998) and *Darkness Death Doom* (2003) before taking a hiatus in the late 2000s. They roared back in 2020 with new material and a flurry of reissues, including the *Death Magick* remaster collection.

Recent releases like *Cycle of the Dying Sun* (2023) and *Archaic Magick* showcase Runemagick’s signature blend of murky grooves and doom-laden menace, with artwork and lyrics steeped in arcane mysticism. Their music feels like unearthing forgotten crypts—crushing, hypnotic, and unapologetically old-school. While lineup changes have occurred over their three-decade run, Rudolfsson’s dedication to riff-heavy, ritualistic metal remains unwavering. Fans of primitive death-doom and bands like *Asphyx* or *Winter* will feel right at home in Runemagick’s shadowy universe.
