Rama Ravi

Rama Ravi is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist and a respected academician in South Indian classical music with a career spanning over five decades. She was trained at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation under renowned gurus like Mysore Vasudevacharya, Budalur Krishnamurthi Sastrigal, M.D. Ramanathan, and T.K. Ramaswami Iyengar, and further refined her art under the guidance of the late D.K. Jayaraman as well as the legendary T. Brinda, T. Mukta, and T. Sankaran. Rama Ravi is known as a leading exponent of the Dhanammal style of Carnatic music, having absorbed its distinctive subtleties and expressive nuances through her deep engagement with this musical tradition. She has performed extensively across India and abroad, holds an "A Top" artist rating from All India Radio Chennai, and has been honored with multiple awards including the Sangita Kala Acharya title by the Madras Music Academy in 2012.

In addition to her performing career, Rama Ravi has made significant contributions as an educator. She has served as the Head of the Department of Music at Seeta Lakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli, and been a visiting faculty member at Kalakshetra. She also headed the Carnatic music division at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi. Beyond Carnatic music, she studied Hindustani classical music under Pt. Vinay Chandra Maudgalya, earning the Visharad degree with distinction. Rama Ravi’s rich legacy as both an artist and teacher cements her as a vital link in continuing the tradition of South Indian classical music with authenticity and depth.
