Beirut

Beirut is an American band that combines elements of indie-rock and world music, creating a unique sound that is often characterized by the extensive use of brass and string instruments, melding Western pop with Eastern European and Balkan folk music influences. The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon, Beirut emerged in the late 2000s from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and quickly garnered critical acclaim with their debut album, "Gulag Orkestar," in 2006.

Beirut's sound is marked by a rich tapestry of melancholic and nostalgic melodies, often evoking images of far-off places and times past, reflected in the diverse instrumentation and Condon's distinct, warm vocals. Following a series of successful releases that include "The Flying Club Cup" (2007) and "The Rip Tide" (2011), the band continued to explore and evolve their sound with albums like "No No No" (2015) and "Gallipoli" (2019). Their compilation album "Artifacts," which came out in 2022, curated a collection of early recordings, B-sides, and rarities, offering a comprehensive look at the evolution of their music. With intricate and emotionally poignant arrangements, Beirut has solidified its place in the indie music scene, captivating fans across the globe with its blend of modern sensibilities and old-world sounds.
