Bhairavi Raman is a Melbourne-based Indian-Australian violinist whose music beautifully bridges Western Classical and Carnatic (South Indian Classical) traditions. Classically trained in both styles, she’s spent years honing her craft in Australia and India, earning an A.Mus.A in violin and studying under respected gurus like Sri S. Varadarajan, Sri Murali Kumar, and Sri Gopinath Iyer. Her playing is known for its emotional depth and technical mastery, often exploring the spiritual and expressive possibilities of each raga.
Bhairavi’s work is shaped by her bicultural identity, and she’s passionate about voicing that experience through her art. She’s released music on her own label Metal Bitch Recordings as well as other notable labels, and her recent album Syncretic—featuring tracks like “Seven” and “Unfolding”—showcases her ability to blend tradition with contemporary improvisation. With over 400 performances across Australia and internationally, including appearances at the prestigious Madras Music Academy, Bhairavi continues to be a dynamic force in the world of experimental and classical music.
