Brian May is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and astrophysicist. He is best known as the lead guitarist and co-songwriter of the rock band Queen. May was born in Hampton, Middlesex, England, on July 19, 1947. He began playing guitar at the age of seven and formed his first band, Smile, in 1968. In 1970, Smile merged with Freddie Mercury's band, Ibex, to form Queen. May has written or co-written many of Queen's most famous songs, including "We Will Rock You," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and "We Are the Champions." He is also a skilled astrophysicist and has a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London.
