Cloud Nothings is an American indie rock band hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, formed by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Baldi in 2009. Initially a solo project, Baldi began Cloud Nothings as a way to explore his own melodic and energetic approach to lo-fi music, creating catchy pop songs in the vein of DIY ethic. The project quickly expanded into a full band setup, which now includes TJ Duke on bass, Chris Brown on guitar, and Jayson Gerycz on drums. The band's sound is characterized by its raw, youthful energy, combining elements of punk, post-hardcore, and noise rock with Baldi's introspective lyricism and infectious melodies.
Cloud Nothings have carved out a niche for themselves within the indie music scene with a series of acclaimed releases. Their album "Attack on Memory" (2012) marked a significant turning point, showcasing a heavier, more aggressive sound that garnered widespread critical acclaim. Following a consistent stream of output, their more recent works like "The Shadow I Remember" (2021) and "Last Building Burning" (2018) continue to evolve and refine their sound, balancing noise-laden textures with clear-cut hooks and a driving sense of urgency. Despite their gritty and sometimes chaotic style, Cloud Nothings manage to retain an underlying pop sensibility that renders their music accessible, ensuring a loyal following and notable presence in the contemporary alternative scene.
