Ippu-Do

Ippu-Do was a seminal Japanese new wave trio that made a significant impact on the music scene in their home country and beyond during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Comprised of Masami Tsuchiya (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Akira Mitake (keyboards), and Shoji Fujii (drums), the band carved out a unique niche for themselves with their eclectic mix of punk-infused energy, synth-pop melodies, and a strong sense of exotic and elaborate production which often had an avant-garde twist.

They debuted with the album "Radio Fantasy" in 1979, which drew attention for its innovative synthesis of Western musical trends and Japanese pop sensibilities. As their music evolved, they released several other albums including "Normal" in 1980, "Lunatic Menu" in 1982, and “Real,” which is often considered one of their masterpieces, showcasing the height of their artistic development. Their later albums, including the reissued and expanded versions like "NIGHT MIRAGE +7" and "NORMAL +5," featured bonus tracks that served both to rekindle interest among long-time fans and to introduce their groundbreaking work to new audiences. Though the group disbanded in the early '80s, as solo artists, especially Masami Tsuchiya, they continued to influence and contribute to the music world. Ippu-Do remains an integral part of Japan's new wave history, and their music continues to be celebrated for its innovative approach and lasting legacy.
