John Snijders

John Snijders is a renowned Dutch classical pianist, born in 1963 in Heemskerk, the Netherlands. He is well-known as the founder and artistic director of the Ives Ensemble, a group that focuses primarily on performances of 20th and 21st-century music. Snijders studied at the Royal Conservatory The Hague under prominent figures like Geoffrey Madge and Louis Andriessen. He has had a distinguished career as both a soloist and ensemble member, performing with major orchestras and at prominent music festivals across Europe, such as the Festival d’Automne in Paris and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. His discography includes notable works by Morton Feldman, such as *Triadic Memories* and *Trio*, reflecting his interest in avant-garde and contemporary music, particularly the works of Feldman and John Cage.

In addition to his performance career, Snijders has been engaged in educational roles. He was a teacher of piano and chamber music at the Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos de Jordão in Brazil in 2008. Since 2013, he has held the position of Head of Music Performance at Durham University in the UK. Snijders has also been the recipient of several awards, including the Muziekgebouw Prize in 2008 for his performance of Richard Rijnvos's *NYConcerto* for piano and chamber orchestra.
