Black Box is an Italian house music group prominent during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Formed in 1988, the group is a leading figure in the Italo house music scene, characterized by its blend of Italian disco and house music. The trio originally consisted of a club DJ, Daniele Davoli, a classically trained clarinet teacher, Valerio Semplici, and a keyboard and electronic music "wiz," Mirko Limoni. They gained international fame with their 1989 landmark single "Ride on Time," which sampled Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation" and became a massive hit in several countries, earning the top spot in the UK Singles Chart for six weeks.
Despite navigating controversy around the uncredited use of Holloway's vocals, Black Box continued their success with hits such as "Everybody Everybody" and "I Don't Know Anybody Else," lifted from their successful debut album "Dreamland." Their infectious and energetic tracks, coupled with the powerful, albeit sometimes uncredited, voices of session singers, became emblematic of the dance music scene of the time. Over the years, they have continued to release and remix their classic tracks, ensuring that their music remains relevant and engaging for both original fans and new audiences. To this day, Black Box's music resonates with an infusion of nostalgia and the timeless appeal of early house music.
