The Strumbellas are a Canadian indie rock band that has skilfully woven together the heartwarming qualities of folk-pop with the rousing energy of alternative rock. Formed in 2008 in Lindsay, Ontario, the band consists of Simon Ward on vocals and guitar, David Ritter on keyboards, Jon Hembrey on lead guitar, Isabel Ritchie on violin, Darryl James on bass, and Jeremy Drury on drums. They burst onto the scene with their debut album, "My Father and the Hunter," in 2012, but it was their sophomore album, "We Still Move on Dance Floors," released in 2013 that earned them their first Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.
Surpassing their previous achievements, The Strumbellas achieved international acclaim with their hit single "Spirits" from their third studio album, "Hope," released in 2016. The track captured the hearts of listeners with its anthemic chorus and the juxtaposition of uplifting melodies with poignant lyrics, earning them substantial radio play, numerous award nominations, and wins, including a coveted Juno Award for Single of the Year in 2017. The band continued to evolve with the release of their fourth album "Rattlesnake" in 2019, showcasing their continued knack for crafting infectious melodies and sing-along choruses. Through songs like "Salvation" and "I'll Wait," The Strumbellas have maintained a loyal fan base and continue to make their mark on the modern music scene with their earnest storytelling and vibrant musicality.
