The Proclivities

The Proclivities is an indie rock anti-folk band hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina. Formed by guitarist and songwriter Matt Douglas, the band's lineup includes Chris Boerner on guitars, Nic Slaton on bass, and Matt McCaughan on drums. Matt Douglas, a music school-trained jazz saxophonist, transitioned into songwriting after studying folk music in Budapest on a Fulbright Scholarship. The Proclivities have released three albums: "Predispositions" (2006), "Music From The Film Coney Island" (2007), and "Handguns & Dancing Shoes" (2008). Their music often features eclectic instrumentation and explores themes of relationships and unique characters, showcasing a diverse sound in each song.

The band's music career has been marked by collaborations with notable artists, and Matt Douglas has also worked with other bands, including The Mountain Goats. The Proclivities' unique blend of indie rock and anti-folk styles has allowed them to share stages with artists like Josh Ritter and Laura Cortese, contributing to their distinctive presence in the music scene.
