Black Coffee

Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, globally known as Black Coffee, has revolutionized the South African house music scene and established an indelible imprint on the international platform. Born on March 11, 1976, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and raised in the Eastern Cape region, Black Coffee's journey into music was not just a pursuit of passion but a testament to resilience in the face of adversity. After a traumatic accident during the political turbulence of 1990 left him with a paralyzed left arm, Black Coffee did not allow this to deter his dreams. Graduating from the Durban University of Technology with a diploma in Jazz, his educational background laid a sturdy foundation for his music career, which kick-started in the early 2000s.

Black Coffee's sound, a sophisticated blend of deep house infused with jazz and soul influences, has garnered him an international fan base and numerous awards, including DJ Awards for Best Deep House DJ and a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for "Subconsciously". Known for his innovative use of African vocals and instruments, he has not only contributed to redefining dance music in South Africa but also acted as a bridge for African music to the global stage. His discography boasts an impressive list of collaborations with global artists such as Pharrell Williams, Diplo, and Elderbrook, asserting his versatility and influence. With releases like "Subconsciously", "10 Missed Calls (feat. Pharrell Williams & Jozzy)", and a series of compelling remixes, Black Coffee continues to expand his artistic boundaries, cultivating a legacy that transcends music by inspiring and uniting people across the world.
