Ondřej Soukup is a Czech composer and bassist known for his extensive work in film scoring and popular music. Originally making his mark as a jazz and rock musician, he transitioned into composing music for film and television, becoming a major figure in the Czech arts scene. He's best known internationally for his award-winning score for the Academy Award-winning film "Kolja" (Kolya), directed by Jan Svěrák, as well as his work on other notable Czech films like "Tmavomodrý svět" (Dark Blue World) and "Vratné Lahve" (Empties). His compositions are often deeply emotive, blending classical and contemporary elements.
In addition to his film work, Soukup has collaborated with some of the Czech Republic’s most popular singers, including Lucie Bílá. A versatile artist, he’s known for his ability to move seamlessly between genres, from pop ballads to orchestral film scores.
