Peeter Cornet was a prominent Flemish organist and composer active in the early 17th century. Born around 1570 and passing away in 1633, he is remembered as one of the most important keyboard composers of his time in the Southern Netherlands. Cornet served as the organist at the court of Archduke Albert and Isabella in Brussels, a major cultural hub during the Baroque period. His organ works are notable for their contrapuntal finesse and inventive use of thematic variation, placing him alongside contemporaries like Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Today, his compositions — especially his fantasias and settings of liturgical texts — are valued for their complexity and expressive depth, continuing to intrigue organists and scholars alike.
