Dana Maman, also known as "Minha Velha," is a multi-talented artist with deep roots in Afro-Brazilian culture. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Jewish immigrant parents of Moroccan and Persian descent, Dana began her journey with percussion and Afro-Brazilian arts at the age of 15. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles and became part of Capoeira Batuque, where she honed her skills under Mestre Amen Santo.
With nearly three decades of experience, Dana has become a respected figure in the world of capoeira, earning the title of Mestre (Master Teacher) in Capoeira Batuque. She's known for her performances and teachings of capoeira and Afro-Brazilian music, both in the US and internationally. Dana now runs one of the few women-led Capoeira Academies in the US, focusing on creating a diverse community around Afro-Brazilian culture. Her recent musical releases, including "Street Dance Orixás" and "Capoeira Music," reflect her deep connection to this art form.
