Ambrozijn

Ambrozijn, a folk band hailing from Belgium, has etched its distinctive mark on the world music scene with its innovative take on traditional Flemish music. Assembled in 1996, the group consists of highly skilled musicians: Wouter Vandenabeele on violin, Tom Theuns on vocals and various stringed instruments, Wim Claeys on diatonic accordion, and occasionally flanked by bassist Ludo Vandeau. They were celebrated for their adept blending of folk melodies with contemporary influences, exuding both a reverence for their roots and a creative spirit that sought to redefine the genre's boundaries.

Despite working within a framework of traditional music, Ambrozijn's versatility empowered them to imbue their arrangements with global sounds, from Balkan overtones to hints of baroque and beyond. Their discography reveals an evolutionary journey, culminating in their tenth-anniversary celebration album, "10 (Live with String Orchestra)," which commemorates their rich career with lush orchestrations coupled with an intimate live atmosphere. Earlier releases such as "Krakalin," "Kabonka," and their eponymous album "Ambrozijn" showcase the band’s eclecticism, each offering a tapestry of lively, intricate compositions and heartfelt storytelling that captures both the timelessness of folk traditions and the vibrant pulse of contemporary music-making. Sadly, the band has dissolved, but their music remains influential in the folk world, and the members have continued to contribute to various musical projects, carrying forth the legacy of Ambrozijn's inventive spirit.
