Arvid Gast is a distinguished German organist and professor born in 1962 in Bremen. He studied Organ Performance and Church Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover and won several organ competitions early in his career. From 1990 to 1993, he served as organist and cantor at St. Nikolai in Flensburg. In 1993, he was appointed Professor of Organ at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig and became the Leipzig University Organist. Since 2004, Gast has been a professor of organ at the Lübeck University of Music and organist at the historically significant St. Jakobi Church in Lübeck. He is also known for founding the International Dieterich Buxtehude Competition in 2007, held every three years in Lübeck. His expertise extends to teaching and performing internationally in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and he has been a juror at prestigious organ competitions worldwide. Gast's recordings showcase a broad repertoire, with a particular focus on North German Baroque, Johann Sebastian Bach, and German Romanticism.
