Cosimo Papandrea

Cosimo Papandrea is a multi-talented musician, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, best known for his role in the Calabrian music group TaranProject. Alongside Mimmo Cavallaro, he co-led TaranProject, which was formed in 2009. Papandrea brought his unique skills on instruments such as the organetto (a type of accordion) and lira calabrese to the group. TaranProject is celebrated for blending traditional Calabrian tarantella with modern elements, using local dialects and addressing social issues. Although TaranProject dissolved in 2015, Papandrea's contributions to the group remain significant, and he continues to be recognized for his soulful performances and deep connection to the cultural heritage of Calabria. He has been involved in various musical projects, including those that highlight the rich cultural traditions of Southern Italy.

Some of the notable works associated with Cosimo Papandrea include albums and songs from his time with TaranProject, such as "Spagna," "Rolica," and "Hjuri di hjumari." He is also associated with more recent releases under his own name or with other collaborators. Papandrea's music often reflects a strong sense of cultural identity and pan-Mediterranean perspectives, drawing on traditional folk elements while engaging with contemporary themes.
