Zeid Hamdan is a Lebanese musician, singer, and songwriter often hailed as a trailblazing figure in the underground music scene of the Middle East. Regarded as an innovator for modern Lebanese and Arab music, he stands as a key influencer with his genre-blending aesthetic, fusing traditional Arabic sounds with electronic music, trip-hop, and reggae. Born in Beirut in 1976, Zeid has continued to push the boundaries of music in Lebanon and beyond, both as a solo artist and as part of several collaborations.
He gained prominence as a co-founder of the pioneering electronic duo Soapkills with Yasmine Hamdan (no relation), which became one of the first indie/electronic bands to emerge from the Middle Eastern region in the late 1990s. Throughout his solo career, Zeid has remained prolific and versatile, as showcased by his recent works which include "Music For Film," capturing a cinematic soundscape; "Balekeh (Live)," displaying his dynamic performance capabilities; and the emotionally resonant "Zecrayat/Beyt (Cube Sessions)." Through albums like "Halawella," a collaboration with Egyptian singer Maryam Saleh, he continues to explore political and social commentary, integrating it seamlessly with his musical expressions. Zeid's ability to capture the nuances of contemporary Arab society and his commitment to nurturing the Middle Eastern music scene solidify his status as an artistic luminary.
