Hradec Kralove Philharmonic Orchestra

The Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1978 initially as the Opera Orchestra of Hradec Králové, is a distinguished Czech ensemble with a rich tradition reaching back to orchestral groups in the region since the late 19th century. The orchestra adopted its current name in 1993 after the establishment of the Czech Republic, reflecting its historic continuity from earlier Philharmonic organizations dating to 1887. It experienced significant artistic growth under the leadership of Professor František Vajnar, who was chief conductor through the 1990s, and is currently led by Andreas Sebastian Weiser.

Known for its polished interpretations and broad repertoire, the orchestra has performed in major European concert halls and participated in notable festivals including Smetana's Litomyšl International Opera Festival and the Music Forum Hradec Králové, which it co-organizes alongside Czech Radio Vltava. The orchestra's quality is well documented through numerous CD recordings and live broadcasts, emphasizing its important role in Czech and European classical music culture.
