The Autumn Defense

The Autumn Defense is an American rock band formed in 1999 by multi-instrumentalists John Stirratt and Pat Sansone. John Stirratt, known for his role as the bassist in the alternative rock band Wilco, joined forces with Sansone, also later a member of Wilco, to bring to life a project that indulges their shared love for classic rock, folk, and vintage pop. The band's sound is characterized by its lush harmonies, melodic basslines, and intricate arrangements that nod to the soft rock and baroque pop of the 1960s and 1970s.

With a discography that has steadily grown since their eponymous debut "The Autumn Defense" in 2000, Stirratt and Sansone have crafted a series of albums that resonate with warmth and understated artistry. Highlights of their career include albums like "Circles" and "Once Around," both of which are cherished for their contemplative lyrics and soothing melodies. The band has been consistently praised for their musicianship and the intimate feel of their live performances, as captured on releases like "Live From Austin: The Autumn Defense." Their fifth studio album, titled "Fifth," released in 2014, encapsulates the band's matured sound and serves as a testament to their enduring appeal as craftsmen of timeless music.
