Hilde Konetzni

Hilde Konetzni was an Austrian operatic soprano whose warm, powerful voice made her a standout in Wagner and Strauss roles during the mid-20th century. Born in 1905, she became a beloved figure at the Vienna State Opera, where her expressive performances as Sieglinde in *Die Walküre* and Chrysothemis in *Elektra* earned her acclaim. Konetzni’s career spanned Europe’s major stages, including collaborations with legendary conductors like Bruno Walter and Clemens Krauss, and she even graced the Metropolitan Opera in New York briefly in the 1930s. Her recordings, such as the *Lebendige Vergangenheit* series and live performances of *Götterdämmerung* or *Der Bergsee*, showcase her knack for blending dramatic intensity with lyrical sensitivity.

After retiring from the stage, Konetzni shared her expertise as a vocal teacher in Vienna, mentoring the next generation of singers. Fun fact: Her brother, Alfred Konetzni, was also a celebrated opera bass! Though less discussed today, her legacy lives on through remastered releases like the 2021 *Die Walküre* update, proving her voice still resonates with Wagnerian grandeur.
