Brinsley Schwarz was an English pub rock band that formed in the late 1960s, originally named Kippington Lodge. The band was comprised of Brinsley Schwarz (lead guitar, vocals), Nick Lowe (bass guitar, vocals), Ian Gomm (guitar, vocals), Bob Andrews (keyboards), and Billy Rankin (drums). Their sound was characterized by a rootsy blend of rock, country, and blues which would go on to influence the emerging punk and new wave scenes. Though commercial success largely eluded them during their active years in the early 1970s, Brinsley Schwarz's approachable style and dedication to live performances earned them a loyal fanbase and critical respect within the music industry.
Following their breakup in 1975, Brinsley Schwarz has enjoyed a sort of cult following, with their music being rediscovered by new generations. Reissues of their work and the release of live performances such as "Live Archive, Vol. 4," and "Live in Sheffield," among others, have helped to cement their legacy within the rock genre. The 2017 release of "Live Favourites" showcases the band's dynamic stage presence and ability to connect with audiences, while "Last Orders!" serves as a capture of the band’s final moments. The band's influence can be seen in the music of many subsequent artists and their tune "Surrender To The Rhythm" has become an enduring classic, celebrated within the various revivals of pub rock and power pop over the decades.
