The Tiger Lillies

The Tiger Lillies are an avant-garde British musical trio formed in 1989 by frontman Martyn Jacques. Renowned for their unique sound, the band blends elements of punk, gypsy music, and cabaret into their performances, creating an atmosphere that is both macabre and whimsically dark. Jacques, recognized for his falsetto voice and the band's lead, usually plays the accordion and is accompanied by Adrian Stout on the double bass, musical saw, and theremin, along with Jonas Golland on drums and percussion. Their music often delves into taboo and grotesque subjects, drawing heavily on the imagery of pre-war Berlin's underground scene and British vaudeville acts, yet imbued with a modern punk ferocity.

Over the years, The Tiger Lillies have maintained a prolific output, consistently releasing albums and touring internationally. Among their most recent works are "I'm a Star," "Lemonaki," and two volumes dedicated to "Covid-19," reflecting the band's engagement with contemporary issues through their distinct lens. Projects like "The Whore of Babylon" and "Edgar Allan Poe's Haunted Palace" showcase their flair for theatrical storytelling, blending literature and drama with their signature sound. The band's ability to evoke the spirit of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill with a punk twist has earned them a devoted global following and a place as cult icons in the alternative music scene. The Tiger Lillies continue to push the boundaries of musical storytelling, keeping their art fresh and relevant in a changing world.
