John Darwall

John Darwall was a significant figure in English hymnody during the 18th century. As a clergyman and musician, he's best known for composing the tune "Darwall's 148th," which is most famously associated with the hymn "Ye Holy Angels Bright" (also known as "Rejoice, the Lord is King"). Darwall served as a vicar in Walsall for many years, and his musical contributions greatly enriched congregational singing. His hymn tunes are characterized by their strong melodies and uplifting harmonies, making them enduring favorites in hymnals around the world.
