Adiemus

Adiemus is an enigmatic new-age musical project conceived by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins during the mid-1990s. It initially surfaced through a track used in a Delta Air Lines television commercial, which later became part of Adiemus' first album, "Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary" released in 1995. This project stands out for its unique blending of classical music influences with ethnic sounds, ambient atmospheres, and invented lyrics—a language that doesn't exist beyond the realm of these musical compositions, allowing the human voice to be presented purely as an instrument.

The music of Adiemus carries a universal and timeless appeal, transcending linguistic barriers with its rich orchestration and haunting choral arrangements. As the series progressed with "Adiemus II - Cantata Mundi" (1996), "Adiemus III - Dances Of Time" (1998), "Adiemus IV - The Eternal Knot" (2001), and "Adiemus V - Vocalise" (2003), Jenkins continued to explore and expand upon this distinctive sound. The project's name, often thought to mean 'We will draw near' in Latin, although not grammatically correct, encapsulates the spiritual and aspirational qualities intrinsic to the music. "Adiemus Live" showcases the project in a live setting, capturing the dynamic and ethereal experience of these orchestral compositions performed on stage, delivering melody and rhythm that float beyond the conventional borders of language and genre.
