Dickie Goodman

Dickie Goodman, born Richard Dorian Goodman on April 19, 1934, was an American music and record producer, who gained fame due to his novel invention of the "break-in" record. These records utilized brief clips of contemporary hit songs to answer comedic questions posed by an off-camera narrator. Known as a pioneer of the sound collage or mashup genre, Goodman's distinctive work cut across various themes ranging from politics to pop culture.

His career skyrocketed with the 1956 hit "The Flying Saucer," a partnership with Bill Buchanan under the name Buchanan & Goodman, which created a narrative around an alien invasion using snippets of current hits. Goodman's knack for humorous storytelling through this unique medium continued to resonate with the public for decades, demonstrating adaptability as he released works like "Election '08," a comic take on the presidential race, and tapping into the holiday spirit through albums like "Buchanan & Goodman Save Christmas." Though Goodman tragically passed away on November 6, 1989, his legacy endures through posthumous compilations and releases that continue to charm old fans and intrigue new listeners with his creative brand of satire and sonic pastiche.
