Walter Murphy

Walter Murphy is an American keyboardist, composer, and record producer best known for his 1976 disco hit "A Fifth of Beethoven." Born in New York City in 1952, Murphy began playing piano at an early age and studied classical music at the Juilliard School. After graduating, he worked as a session musician and arranger before releasing his debut album, "Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band," in 1975. The album featured "A Fifth of Beethoven," a disco adaptation of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, which became a worldwide hit and helped popularize the disco genre. Murphy continued to release successful albums and singles throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Toccata And Funk In 'D' Minor." He has also composed music for film and television, including the theme song for the popular TV series "Miami Vice."
