Blake Babies

The Blake Babies are an American indie rock band formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. Named after the innocent and wicked children in the works of English poet William Blake, the group was conceived when singer-songwriter Juliana Hatfield, guitarist John Strohm, and drummer Freda Love came together to craft songs that deftly mixed raw energy, emotion, and melodic sensibility. The band originally split up in 1991, but not before becoming darlings of the college radio circuit and leaving an indelible mark on the burgeoning alternative music scene of the late '80s and early '90s.

Their 1993 release "Innocence And Experience" compiled some of the best songs from their earlier records, capturing the essence of their sound, while "Sunburn" from 1990 remains one of their most critically acclaimed albums, highlighting their knack for jangly pop fused with punk vigor. Post-disbandment, Hatfield went on to enjoy a successful solo career, but the pull of their shared chemistry eventually led to a reunion in 2001, yielding the album "God Bless The Blake Babies." The band has had sporadic activity since, releasing the EP "Epilogue" as a final statement of sorts in 2002. The Blake Babies' influence has endured in the indie music world, with their blend of introspective lyrics, catchy hooks, and a distinctly earnest approach that continues to resonate with fans old and new.
