Jorge Reyes

Jorge Reyes was a pioneering Mexican musician renowned for his groundbreaking fusion of indigenous Mesoamerican music with modern electronic elements. Born on September 24, 1952, in Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico, he began his career as a rock musician before delving into the exploration of pre-Hispanic musical traditions. Reyes incorporated a wide array of traditional instruments such as flutes, rainsticks, and drums, alongside synthesizers and guitars, in his compositions. His creative approach towards music led him to become one of the leading figures in world music and ambient genres in Latin America.

Throughout his prolific career, Jorge Reyes released numerous albums that showcased his dedication to preserving and reinterpreting native Mexican and ancient music, earning him international recognition. Among his most notable works are "A La Izquierda Del Colibrí," a collaboration with Antonio Zepeda, and "The Flayed God," which reflects his deep connection with pre-Hispanic culture. Sadly, Reyes passed away on February 7, 2009, but his legacy lives on through his extensive discography and the influence he has had on musicians interested in blending traditional sounds with contemporary music.
