Ivan Meylemans is a Belgian conductor known for his dynamic and exciting performances. Born in 1971, he began his musical journey by studying trombone, percussion, and piano at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and the conservatory of Ghent. He later pursued orchestral conducting at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, graduating with the highest distinction. Meylemans has had a robust career, serving as the chief conductor of the Zeeland Orchestra in Middelburg and as a professor of orchestral and band conducting at several institutions, including LUCA School of Arts and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. He has conducted numerous major orchestras worldwide, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and orchestras in Asia, including the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his symphonic work, Ivan Meylemans is very active in the banding world. He is an internationally acclaimed conductor in the Brass Band scene and has led notable bands like Symphonic Wind Band 'St-Michael Thorn' and Royal Fanfare Band Kempenbloei. His diverse musical engagements have included operatic debuts, such as conducting Opera Zuid's production of Massenet's "Manon," and collaborating with artists like Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren at the coronation concert of King Willem-Alexander in 2013.
