Dutch Mason

Norman "Dutch" Mason, born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia on February 19, 1938, was affectionately known as the "Prime Minister of the Blues" in his home country of Canada. A celebrated musician, Dutch Mason’s career spanned over three decades, during which he garnered acclaim for his gritty voice and authentic blues guitar style, which drew deeply from the well of traditional American blues.

Though his discography is not vast, the quality of Dutch Mason's music speaks volumes about his mastery of the blues genre. His releases such as "Double Header: Special Brew / Gimme a Break," "You Can't Have Everything," "Wish Me Luck," "Gimme a Break," and "Special Brew" showcase a musician who not only played the blues but lived them. Dutch Mason’s influence extended beyond his recordings, as he was a mentor to many and a pivotal figure in the Canadian blues scene. His legacy lives on through the recordings that continue to inspire new generations of blues enthusiasts. Dutch Mason passed away on December 23, 2006, but his indelible mark on the blues tradition endures.
