Monotonix were a wild and explosive garage rock trio from Tel Aviv, Israel, known for their chaotic live performances and raw energy. Formed in 2005 by singer Ami Shalev, guitarist Yonatan Gat, and drummer Ran Shimoni (later replaced by Haggai Fershtman), the band quickly developed a cult following thanks to their incendiary shows, which often included crowd-surfing, playing in the middle of the audience, and setting equipment on fire.
Their music combined gritty garage rock riffs with punk fury and psychedelic flair, drawing comparisons to both The Stooges and MC5. Monotonix released a handful of records, including their debut EP "Body Language" in 2008, the full-length albums "Where Were You When It Happened?" (2009) and "Not Yet" (2011), both on Drag City. The band disbanded in 2011 after years of relentless touring and unforgettable shows—leaving behind a legacy as one of the most unpredictable and electrifying live acts of the 2000s indie rock scene.
