Prince Buster

Prince Buster, born Cecil Bustamente Campbell on May 24, 1938, in Kingston, Jamaica, was a pivotal figure in the creation and popularization of ska and rocksteady music. He began his music career after garnering attention as a skilled boxer, thus earning the nickname "Prince Buster." In the 1960s, he emerged as one of the leading voices in Jamaican music, both as a performer and a producer. His sound was characterized by its infectious rhythms, which eventually laid the groundwork for what would evolve into reggae.

Buster's influence extended far beyond the Caribbean: his music struck a chord with British mods and skinheads, invigorating the ska revival movement in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s. Notable hits like "Al Capone" and "Madness" cemented his legacy as the "King of Ska." He was a prolific musician, with an extensive catalog that continued to grow throughout his life. After a long and influential career, Prince Buster passed away on September 8, 2016. However, his music lives on, with reissues and collections, such as the "Ska and Rocksteady Collection" series, ensuring that new generations can experience the rhythmic genius of one of Jamaica's most legendary artists.
