The Glove was a short-lived but influential side project formed in the early 1980s by Robert Smith of The Cure and Steven Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Created during a brief period when Smith was playing guitar for the Banshees, the duo came together to experiment with psychedelic sounds outside the confines of their main bands. The result was their 1983 album, Blue Sunshine, a vivid and unconventional blend of post-punk, psychedelia, and new wave.
Despite only releasing one album, The Glove has maintained a cult following over the years. The record featured Jeanette Landray on vocals (as Smith was contractually restricted from singing), and showcased a more whimsical, surreal side of both musicians. Blue Sunshine has since been reissued in deluxe editions, continuing to attract new listeners and solidifying The Glove’s status as a fascinating footnote in post-punk history.
