A Big Yes and a small no is a Brooklyn-based indie rock ensemble that blends elements of jazz, pop, and ska into their unique sound. The band was formed by Kevin Kendrick after he moved to New York City in 2005, following his recovery from heroin addiction. Kendrick, who had previously studied classical percussion at Interlochen Arts Academy, assembled the group by calling on talented musicians he knew, including former members of his previous band, Fat Mama.
The band's music has been praised for its clever lyrics and hidden virtuosity, drawing comparisons to the works of Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson. Their debut album made a significant impact on college radio playlists in July 2008.
