Miguelito Valdés, also known as "Mr. Babalú," was a Cuban singer and bandleader renowned for his energetic and passionate performances of Afro-Cuban music. Born in Havana in 1912, Valdés gained international fame in the 1930s and 1940s, particularly for his work with the legendary orchestra Casino de la Playa and his collaborations with Xavier Cugat. His powerful voice and charismatic stage presence made him one of the most popular Latin music vocalists of his time, especially with his signature hit "Babalú," which became an anthem of Afro-Cuban rhythm. Valdés continued performing and recording extensively, leaving a lasting impact on Latin jazz and Cuban music before passing away in 1978.
