Toshiyuki Shibata is a versatile flutist originally from Takamatsu, Japan, known for his impressive fluency across diverse historical periods and flute types, including modern, baroque, and classical flutes. He studied linguistics at Osaka University before shifting his focus to music education in New York, where he performed actively as a concert flutist and recording session musician. Later, after relocating to Belgium, he deepened his expertise in early music, studying at prestigious institutions like the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels, and performed with notable ensembles such as the Brussels Philharmonic and La Petite Bande.
Shibata is also recognized for his chamber music collaborations and has recorded critically acclaimed albums, including "J.S. Bach: Sonatas, Fantasias & Improvisations" alongside fortepianist Anthony Romaniuk. Their work highlighting the music of J.S. Bach and his sons received praise for both technical mastery and expressive depth. Active internationally, Shibata has toured as a soloist and is based in Paris, where he continues to teach early music performance and perform widely.
