Cano Estremera, born Carlos Enrique Estremera Colón, was a beloved Puerto Rican salsa singer known for his sharp wit, powerful stage presence, and improvisational skills, especially in the art of "soneo"—freestyle lyrical riffing during live salsa performances. Nicknamed "El Cano" for his light complexion and signature white hair, Estremera rose to fame in the 1980s after joining Bobby Valentín’s band, where he delivered standout performances that made him a fan favorite.
He launched a successful solo career with hits like “La Boda de Ella” and “El Toro,” showcasing his clever lyrical style and strong voice. Cano was celebrated not only for his music but also for his unfiltered personality, often saying exactly what he thought, which endeared him even more to his audience. Despite battling health issues in later years, Estremera remained active in the salsa scene until his passing in 2020, leaving behind a legacy as one of salsa’s most charismatic and unique voices.
