Thomas Leer is a Scottish musician known for his eclectic and influential career in music. Born Thomas Wishart in 1953 in Port Glasgow, Scotland, Leer began his musical journey by playing in local experimental pop groups in the early 1970s. He later moved to London, where he became part of the vibrant punk scene, forming the band Pressure before transitioning to synthpop and Krautrock influences. In 1978, Leer self-financed his debut single, "Private Plane," which gained significant attention despite its limited release. He went on to collaborate with Robert Rental on the album *The Bridge* in 1979 and released several solo works, including *Contradictions* and *The Scale of Ten*.
In the late 1980s, Leer formed the duo Act with Claudia Brücken, releasing the album *Laughter, Tears and Rage* before taking a hiatus. He returned to music in the early 2000s with albums like *Conversation Peace* and *From Sci-Fi to Barfly*. Leer's music often blends elements of synthpop, experimental sounds, and introspective lyrics, showcasing his unique approach to electronic music. His recent releases include *Parts of a Greater Hole 2.0* and *Emotional Hardware*, demonstrating his continued creativity and innovation in the music scene.
