Alborosie

Alborosie is an Italian-born reggae powerhouse who’s become a beloved figure in Jamaica’s music scene. Born Alberto D’Ascola in Sicily, he kicked off his career in the late ’90s as the frontman of the Italian band Reggae National Tickets before ditching Europe for Kingston in pursuit of his roots reggae passion. Once there, he immersed himself in the culture, learning to produce, play instruments (he’s a multi-instrumentalist!), and even build his own studio. His gritty, soulful vocals and vintage-inspired beats—think heavy basslines and dub vibes—earned him respect in a genre deeply tied to Jamaican identity. Tracks like *Dub Pirate* and *Kingston Dub Town* showcase his knack for blending old-school riddims with modern messages, while collabs with artists like Jaz Elise and Kabaka Pyramid (see *Nah Sell Out*) highlight his community-driven ethos.

Though he’s a white European in a predominantly Black genre, Alborosie’s authenticity and dedication to reggae’s social justice roots have solidified his place as a “Soul Pirate” (a nickname he owns proudly).
