Oskar Böhme was a German composer and trumpeter best known for his contributions to brass repertoire, particularly for the trumpet. Born in 1870, Böhme studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and went on to build a career as a professional trumpeter and composer, spending much of his working life in Russia. His music combines Romantic lyricism with technical brilliance, making it a favorite among brass players.
His most well-known work is the Trumpet Concerto in F minor, a staple in the trumpet repertoire thanks to its expressive melodies and brilliant passages. Böhme also composed chamber works, including a brass sextet that’s frequently performed today. Unfortunately, like many artists of his time, Böhme’s life was affected by political turmoil—he was persecuted during Stalin's regime and died in 1938. Despite this, his music lives on and continues to inspire brass players around the world.
