High Rise

High Rise is a seminal Japanese noise rock and psychedelic band that formed in the mid-1980s and quickly became an underground fixture within Tokyo's avant-garde music scene. The band's core lineup consists of Narita Munehiro on guitar, Asahito Nanjo on bass and vocals, and Koji Shimura on drums, each an accomplished musician bringing a unique and unbridled energy to the group's sound. Known for their raw, intense live performances and a driving blend of punk ethos with heavy, distorted guitars, High Rise established themselves as icons of Japan's experimental music landscape.

The music of High Rise is characterized by a relentless assault of sound, combining elements of punk, heavy metal, and free jazz, which can be heard in works such as "Dispersion" and "Wipe Out." Their 1986 release "High Rise II" is particularly noted for its frenetic pace and aggressive edge, securing their place among the pantheon of proto-punk influencers. Though not widely known to the mainstream, High Rise's influence extends far beyond their home shores, having garnered a cult following internationally and securing their status as progenitors of the psychedelic noise genre. With a discography that revels in raw power and unchained musical exploration, High Rise remains a potent symbol of sonic rebellion and creative defiance.
