Amiina is an Icelandic musical group known for their ethereal and delicate compositions, which transcend traditional genre boundaries, blending elements of minimalism, classical, ambient, and post-rock influences. The group originally started as a string quartet at the Reykjavík College of Music in the late 1990s, composed of four women: Hildur Ársælsdóttir, Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir, Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, and Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir. Initially known for their work with Sigur Rós, they quickly established themselves as accomplished artists in their own right.

Amiina's journey began with their first release, "Animamina," which was an EP that introduced their unique blend of classical string instruments with an array of other musical tools, including glassophones, music boxes, and bells. Their full-length album "Kurr" (2007) received critical acclaim and expanded their fanbase, displaying the depth and breadth of their musical inventiveness. Over the years, their discography has continued to grow, featuring thoughtful, often cinematic soundscapes that captivate listeners and transport them to otherworldly sonic realms.
