Djivan Gasparyan

Djivan Gasparyan, born in Solak, Armenia on October 12, 1928, was a musician deeply revered for mastering the duduk, an ancient Armenian woodwind instrument known for its soulful sound. Often referred to as the "Master of the Duduk," Gasparyan’s music transcended cultural barriers, weaving the rich tapestry of Armenian history with the threads of its poignant melodies. His craft was honed in tradition yet groundbreaking in its reach, as he bridged the gap between folk music and global audiences.

Gasparyan began playing the duduk at the age of six and went on to have an illustrious career spanning over six decades, a testament to his enduring dedication captured in the release "65 Years on Stage." His work earned him several international awards, and his collaborations extended beyond the confines of genre, working with artists like Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, and the Kronos Quartet. Albums like "The Best," "Armenian Romances (Duduk)," and "Old And New Memories (Duduk)" are a showcase of his virtuosic skill and emotive performance, which continued to celebrate and innovate Armenian music until his passing in July 2021. Djivan Gasparyan not only preserved the legacy of the duduk but also nurtured its evolution, ensuring its echoes would resonate for generations to come.
